2011 Loretta Lynn Amateur Motocross Championship: 35 heros to be crowned (video part 1 of series)

The 2011 Loretta Lynn Amateur Motocross Championship is this August. The event represents the absolute heart and soul of American motocross. First started in 1982, this year will mark the race’s 30th anniversary. The racing is held every year at Loretta’s dude ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. For the second year in a row, Red Bull will be the headline sponsor, along with Amsoil. All the top sponsors will be scouting for professional talent. Earning a championship here is no easy feat…the motocross racing has been described as possibly the most competitive dirt bike racing in the world. 52 Area Qualifiers and 12 Regional Championship events were hosted earlier this year at motocross tracks across the country. The top placed riders from those qualifiers are the ”elite few” that get to compete. Out of approximately 25,000 racers, just 1,400 will make it to Loretta’s. The 2011 championship races will be held from August 1 to 6, and a total of 35 champions will be crowned. This “Road to Loretta’s” video, titled “the first step”, is part 1 of a new series made for television. It highlights the stories of several amateur motocross racers from across the country and their quest for a championship title. Motocross legends such as Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, and Ryan Dungey all got their start at “the ranch”. Dave Coombs Sr. and Paul Shlegel are the original founding fathers of this historic event, the most prestigious amateur motocross race in the world.
