Final Results: 2012 Loretta Lynn Amateur Motocross Nationals
The final results of the 2012 Loretta Lynn Amateur Motocross Championship are now in the books, as the last two days of competition, Friday and Saturday, brought intense racing to ‘The Ranch’. Riders had one last chance to race their final moto of the unique three race format, before heading home. The weather continued to be extremely hot and muggy, with a heat index soaring above 100 while the sun scorched bright. A few random showers brought temporary relief, only to make it even hotter after they cleared. The track remained in decent shape, with good loam soil. However, massive braking bumps and deep ruts made it an extremely challenging course. Saturday was a half day, the final day of racing, followed by closing awards ceremonies. Thirty six champions were crowned as class winners in the 31st running of the most prestigious amateur motocross championship in the world. Class champions were spoiled with literally thousands of dollars of sponsor’s merchandise, as they enjoyed every moment of amateur motocross stardom.
As expected, there was incredible racing to witness in all of the third motos of the Loretta 2012 MX Championships. One of the best races was in Saturday morning’s 450 A class race. Zack Williams and Jesse Wentland had fans screaming on the bleachers, as the two riders raced back and forth for the overall 450A class title. Williams edged out with the title, by getting second place, while race winner Joey Savatgy’s had to settle for a third overall because of an unfortunate ninth place finish earlier in the week. Another tight battle ensued in the 250B modified class, as Cooper Webb and Matt Bisceglia went head to head for the title. Nick Gaines pulled the holeshot, but in the end Bisceglia took home the gold medal and title. Cooper Webb was still a champion by winning the 250B stock title. Adam Cianciarulo won the Super Mini class with dominance, winning all three motos in both of his classes. That accomplishment added two more Loretta titles to his name, now matching Mike Alessi and James Stewart’s record of eleven total championships at Loretta’s. There were several other dominant riders at this years 2012 event. Doug Dubach won two more titles, after winning both the Senior +40 and +45 classes, while both Jordan Bailey and Justin Hoeft also earned double championship titles. Ricky Carmichael dazzled the fans with his 1-1-1 return to the 25+ class, while the legendary trainer Gary Semics proved he still knows how to win too.
Zach Bell, 250 A class champion won this year’s coveted ‘AMA Horizon Award’, given to the rider showing the most promise as a pro racer. Many eyes will be on Zach next weekend, as he starts his pro career at the Southwick National. Robbie Reynard took home the top Vet honors by winning the Vet 35+ class, while also being the only rider to give solid challenge to Ricky Carmichael in the +25 class. To no surprise, Florida and California were the most dominant states, with California earning the 2012 State Champion Award.
