2012 Loretta Lynn MX: Wednesday and Thursday Recap

Staggering heat continued midweek for motocross racers at the 2012 Loretta Lynn MX Amateur Nationals. There was no shortage of excitement though, as the first round of motos was inked into the Loretta Lynn history books by noon on Wednesday. A grueling total of thirty races took place between Tuesday morning’s 7 am start and Wednesday’s afternoon intermission… completing the first round of a three moto format for all classes. Following Wednesday’s short intermission to get the track back in shape, round two motos began with the 250C modified class roaring down the start around 1:30pm on Wednesday.

By nightfall on Wednesday, racers looked tired and hot. Many commented that the track was one of the roughest they had ever seen at Loretta’s. Though there was not much rain and the soil was almost perfectly loam…huge ruts, big enough to swallow bikes, had formed in various berms from the thousands of laps turned. Stories of both agony and defeat echoed throughout the pits at sundown on Thursday. A handful of talented riders finished their round two motos exactly where they had placed in moto one…on top of the podium. Zach Bell, Adam Cianciarulo, Ryder Difrancesco, Hector Rodriguez, Justin Hoeft, Conner Mullenix, Jazzmyn Canfield, Cody Herzog, Pierce Brown, Axell Hodges, Robbie Reynard, Matt Bisceglia, Doug Dubach, Gary Semics, Ricky Carmichael, Jesse Wentland and Jordan Bailey, all claimed a second victory in their class by going 1-1. Adam Cianciarulo was king, as the only rider to go 1-1 in two seperate classes. Amongst the crowd cheering them on, were several motocross legends including Ryan Villopoto, Blake Baggett, Malcolm Stewart, Kyle Chisholm, Trey Canard, and Blake Wharton… just to name a few.

Thursday’s racing was intense, as the second motos were one by one, completed throughout the day…ending at dusk with the ‘braaap’ of the exciting two stroke class. Carmichael’s return to Lorettas was a highlight on Thursday as the ‘Goat’ once again claimed victory in moto 2 of the 25+ class. Both evenings, storm warnings alarmed in the background. Several times it looked as if massive storms were approaching, yet somehow ’the ranch’ seemed to dodge rain every time… with nothing but sunshine and intense humidity. By midweek, Chronic MX riders were pumped with some spectacular rides… the best coming from Luke Davie’s incredible holeshot aboard his BPM racing Honda, earning a second place podium finish for moto 2 in the extremely fast College B/C (16-24) class. Luke also earned an impressive 6th in Moto 1, while finishing 8th and 11th in the 450B Modified class motos. Chronic MX’s Colbe Perrenot also enjoyed success, with a top ten finish in the competitive 450C class, while Chronic MX’er Austin Wagner scored big with his 8th place ride in moto 2 of the stacked, two stroke class. It was great to see Chronic MX sponsored rider Darius Glover ride a parade lap with the 250B class…Darius is the worlds fastest paraplegic motocross rider, and Gold medalist in the recent extremity games. Another huge milestone for Chronic MX at ‘the ranch’ was seeing team Chronic MX vet rider, John Choate, line up right next to legend’s Doug Dubach and Gary Semics on the starting gate. Unfortunately, Choate suffered a back injury during a moto 1 incident, yet he was still able to finish both motos. Gary Semics made his return to Loretta’s count with a first place in the Masters class, while Dubach racked up yet another win in the 45+ class.
