2012 MXDN Motocross Of Nations On CBS Sports, Chisholm To Race For Puerto Rico
The 2012 ‘MXDN’ Motocross De Nations had a few last minute surprises for motocross fans this week… first we learned that the prestigious international motocross race will be televised on CBS Sports, and secondly we got breaking news that Kyle Chisholm will race for Team Puerto Rico. The MXDN will air on CBS Sports this Sunday, September 30, at 10pm Eastern. Motocross fans were thrilled to learn of this news as much excitement is building in hopes for another Team USA win. This year’s Team USA consists of GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett, and Red Bull KTM’s champion Ryan Dungey. Team USA’s manager will be the infamous “Godfather of Motocross” legend Roger DeCoster. Several other American riders will actually be racing also. In a last minute shuffle, Team Puerto Rico called upon Jeff Ward Racing’s Kyle Chisholm, to race as a replacement to injured rider Jimmy Albertson, who broke his leg in a bad practice crash. Chisholm had zero time to prepare and will arrive just in time to try shed his ‘jet lag’ and perform well in his race. Kyle Chisholm released a statement via twitter after the news of Alberston’s injury and on his presence requested to fill the spot: “thanks to all the guys who helped pull this craziness together. On the plane now and will get there [Lommel] tomorrow. I’ve only ridden about 1 hour since the last national, but I am excited to have fun and do my best.”
The Motocross Of Nations (originally called The Motocross Des Nations) was first started in 1947. The scoring for the event works using the “position system”, meaning that first place is awarded one point, second place two points, etc. Each class (currently MX1, MX2 and Open) races two motos, and each time races against one of the other two classes, for a total of three races. The worst score of the three races is dropped, and the lowest combined score of the two best motos wins the title.
Ryan Dungey will be in the MX1 class, while Blake Baggett will be on a 250f in the MX2 class. Justin Barcia will race the ‘open’ class on a 450f. All three Team USA riders have won Supercross or Motocross titles recently… with Ryan Dungey being the most dominant of the three champions. “This is a really strong 2012 team, it’s going to be a great race. I am confident with the racers chosen this year” Roger DeCoster said. The track in Lommel, Belgium is extremely sandy and is expected to produce massive deep ruts for a serious challenge to all of the pro riders. Roger DeCoster is no stranger to the Lommel track, and helped Team USA win their first ever Motocross Des Nations title back in 1981. That year Roger DeCoster managed a team of four American riders (Johnny O’Mara, Chuck Sun, Donny Hansen, and Danny LaPorte ) to bring home the prestigious MXDN championship title for Team USA. Stay tuned to http://www.facebook.com/ChronicMotoX for updates to the race. Chronic MX will also be posting results and news on twitter. Cheers, Chronic MX.
