Chronic MX Tech tip: How to correctly adjust chain slack on a motocross bike
Hey Chronic Mxer’s! One thing that is critical to do each and every time you head out for a ride is to make sure you have properly adjusted your motocross bike’s chain. I am always amazed at the number of riders I see with chains slapping around because they are way too loose. I have also seen riders with chains so tight that the riders safety is literally at risk because the chain could snap while riding. An incorrect chain slack measurement is like throwing away money because it will affect the lifespan of your sprockets and chain…not to mention cause the need for a complete engine rebuild if the chain snaps or comes apart during a ride. So, check out this great instructional video from Johnny’s Shop and from now on keep your chain in spec! Cheers Rocket 88

How or what is the best way to set up my chain on my ktm sxf250?
Chronic MX
Honestly, the very best way to set up your chain is to check the owner’s manual. It will tell you the correct procedure on how to adjust the chain. You dont want it too tight…that could lead to a broken or prematurely stretched chain. You also dont want it too loose…that could lead to premature wear of the sprockets or derailment of the chain. Many people use the ‘three finger’ rule…as far as how much slack is perfect. Just check your owners manula and start there. We will be releasing a good tech tip soon on chain adjustment. There are some tricks…such as using sidewinders chain tool for checking replacement, and there is also a great tool by motion pro to help align the bolts so the chain is straight. Cheers, Chronic MX.
