All Eyes On The 2012 Lites Class Heading To Lake Elsinore After Steel City Results
All eyes are on the 2012 Lites Class heading into Lake Elsinore after the Steel City’s Results. The 2012 Steel City outdoor motocross results had Ryan Dungey and Eli Tomac fans smiling ear to ear this past Labor Day weekend. Round 11 of the Lucas Oil AMA Series saw Ryan Dungey maintain his domination in the 450 class, while Eli Tomac surprised many fans with a clean sweep via both 250 moto wins. Next weekend’s race in Lake Elsinore will be the last race of the outdoor motocross series, and even though Ryan Dungey has the title locked in the 450 class, the lites class will certainly be an exciting race to watch. Heading into Lake Elsinore, Team Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett leads the championship by only 14 points. The tight points chase reminded many race fans of a similar battle back in 2010, when Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel lost his Outdoor Lites title to Trey Canard at the very last round following poor results and a charge by Team Honda’s Canard at Steel City.
KTM’s Ryan Dungey has absolutely dominated the 450 class this year. He once again ran away with the win at Steel City with a 30 second lead ahead of Andrew Short and Mike Alessi in Moto 1. Alessi battled JGR’s Davi Millsaps, but Millsaps eventually fell back and was passed by JWR’s Josh Grant. In Moto 2, Dungey had to work his way to the front after a bad start and a small mistake. Alessi was up front for over half of the moto until Dungey finally moved into first. A stoked Jake Weimer rounded out the podium in Moto 2. Dungey’s overall made for an astonishing nine consecutive overall wins. Second place Mike Alessi leads Andrew Short by 76 points heading into the final round. Jake Weimer just barely sits in front of Tickle with an 18 point lead for fourth place in the series.
In the 250 class, Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac gave the fans their money’s worth with one of the best races of the season. Tomac battled his teammate Justin Barcia in the final laps and eventually passed Barcia for the Moto 1 win. Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen rounded out the podium with his third place behind the dueling Honda teammates. Series points leader Blake Baggett held a comfortable fourth place ahead Marvin Musquin. Tomac was once again proved his speed in Moto 2, leading second place Ken Roczen by almost 10 seconds. Barcia rounded out the podium, while Baggett once again played it safe with a fourth place finish. Baggett now has only a 14 point lead ahead of Tomac, and his teammate Justin Barcia sits in third 18 points behind.
