Final Point Standings 2012 Outdoor Motocross Season 450 250 WMX

Final Point Standings and season recap of the 2012 Outdoor Motocross Season’s 450, 250, and WMX classes:

After 12 rounds of exciting races, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey emerged as the most dominant rider of the 2012 Lucas Oil Outdoor Motocross Championship. Dungey won an astounding 10 overall wins in a row and earned the 2012 450 title by the time he raced Steel City. He made it clear that he was the fastest and most consistent rider all season long, and continued to dominate even after earning the title. Unfortunately, many pro riders were on the sidelines in 2012. Big names such as James Stewart, Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto, Trey Canard, and dozens of others fell victim to injury. Mike Alessi had a solid year, earning second place, his best finish in the 450 Outdoor class ever. While Jake Weimer also celebrated a third overall, just barely sneaking by Andrew Short in points at the final Lake Elsinore round.

The 250 Lites class proved to be ultra competitive. Blake Baggett seemed most dominant, but poor starts forced him to truly earn the number one title by having to come from behind at almost every race. He stayed consistent and fast though, and gave Team kawasaki Pro Circuit yet another title to hang on their wall. Baggett had just a 14 point lead heading into the final round at Lake Elsinore, but closed the deal with raw speed and stamina. Team Geico Honda’s Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac battled until the end throughout the season, with Barcia taking second overall away from his teammate Eli Tomac. Tomac may have been the true hero, giving Baggett a real ‘chase the end’, building momentum and catching the leader towards the end of the season…only to give up that charge due to bad luck and exhaustion at the final Lake Elsinore round. The WMX women’s pro motocross season was possibly the closest chase of all classes, with Fiolek edging out Geiger and Patterson for the #1 plate. We congratulate all of the 2012 season champion’s, and look forward to what is surely expected to be a spectacular year of racing in 2013. Cheers, Chronic MX.
