James Stewart Wins 2012 Daytona Supercross

The 2012 Daytona Supercross track fell victim to Florida’s infamous rainy, springtime weather and became somewhat of a mud bath for all of the racers. Certainly it wasn’t as bad a s a few years ago, when Chad Reed lost on the final lap to Kevin Windham, in what turned out to be one of the most drenched supercross races in history. James Stewart and team JGR had no complaints at all though.  As seen in the GoPro helmet cam footage shot during practice, Bubba was looking quite comfortable all night. The Joe Gibbs MX crew took home two podium finishes, with James Stewart taking the win and teammate Davi Millsaps following in second. Crowd favorite Kevin Windham was also victorious with his first podium finish of the year…a third place finish that had all 35,000 fans cheering. We expected Kevin to do well, as he has clearly proven to all that he is quite possibly the most talented mud rider on the circuit. Missing from the Daytona starting gate was KTM’s Ryan Dungey, who unfortunately was out with a collarbone injury suffered earlier in the week.

Justin Barcia continued his dominance in the Supercross East Lites class, making his Daytona win his fourth in a row. Pro Circuit’s Blake Baggett astonished everyone with an amazing charge towards the end of the race, but Barcia was just too strong. Barcia has opened up a huge lead in the points and it seems an impossible task for anyone to steal the 2012 crown from the team Gieco Honda’s extremely talented rider. Ricky renner sparked a ton of attention for showing up on a YZ 125 two stroke (as we reported earlier in the day). Next week the series heads to Indy. Our guess is that Ryan Villopoto, who finished a disappointing 5th place at Daytona, will be ready to resume his domination…but this time he may have his hands full as it appears that James Stewart is finally dialed in. Cheers, Rocket 88.
