Jeff Alessi Accused Of Pointing Laser At Villapoto During Washougal Motocross
The action packed sport of motocross is no different than any other sport when it comes to occasional controversy and drama. Over the years we have seen our fair share of bizarre news, both on and off the track. It’s simply a ‘given’ that poor judgment will sometimes happen, especially when you have dozens of young aggressive competitors, traveling the country year round… fueled by adrenaline, testosterone and ego. On top of that, the laurels for winning can be extremely lucrative. So whether there are “bad boys” like Jason Lawrence or Josh Hansen getting themselves in trouble, or heroes like James Stewart and Ron Lechein making mistakes in their personal lives… every year someone new is caught misbehaving.
Washougal’s starting gate may end up providing us with this year’s hyped up drama… which we personally prefer to ignore. There has been no confirmation as of yet, but the news is that Jeff Alessi, Mike Alessi’s brother, was caught pointing some sort of laser at Ryan Villopoto, while RV was on the starting gate of Washougal’s 2013 Pro Outdoor National race. Davey Combs apparently confiscated Jeff Alessi’s credentials and laser, as seen in this above photo that was circulating around the net (taken by Steve Giberson). Steve Matthes meanwhile, had a ”not-so-nice” confrontation with the team shortly afterwards (video below). We are not sure whether Alessi indeed really was pointing the laser at Villopoto or not….or what he even uses it for. We will simply have to wait and see how this plays out next week, and what the official news release (if any) confirms, to learn whether or not MX sports slaps a penalty of some sort on Jeff Alessi. It’s simply a bummer for all involved and no one wins when people make mistakes via poor judgment. So meanwhile, lets enjoy the great racing that Outdoor MX provides us with, and chalk this one up as just another dumb “goof up” for the mx history books. Cheers, Chronic MX.
