Jeff Alessi Accused Of Pointing Laser At Villapoto During Washougal Motocross

Alessi Laser

The action packed sport of motocross is no different than any other sport when it comes to occasional controversy and drama. Over the years we have seen our fair share of bizarre news, both on and off the track. It’s simply a ‘given’ that poor judgment will sometimes happen, especially when you have dozens of young aggressive competitors, traveling the country year round… fueled by adrenaline, testosterone and ego. On top of that, the laurels for winning can be extremely lucrative. So whether there are “bad boys” like Jason Lawrence or Josh Hansen getting themselves in trouble, or heroes like James Stewart and Ron Lechein making mistakes in their personal lives… every year someone new is caught misbehaving.

Washougal’s starting gate may end up providing us with this year’s hyped up drama… which we personally prefer to ignore. There has been no confirmation as of yet, but the news is that Jeff Alessi, Mike Alessi’s brother, was caught pointing some sort of laser at Ryan Villopoto, while RV was on the starting gate of Washougal’s 2013 Pro Outdoor National race. Davey Combs apparently confiscated Jeff Alessi’s credentials and laser, as seen in this above photo that was circulating around the net (taken by Steve Giberson). Steve Matthes meanwhile, had a ”not-so-nice” confrontation with the team shortly afterwards (video below). We are not sure whether Alessi indeed really was pointing the laser at Villopoto or not….or what he even uses it for. We will simply have to wait and see how this plays out next week, and what the official news release (if any) confirms, to learn whether or not MX sports slaps a penalty of some sort on Jeff Alessi. It’s simply a bummer for all involved and no one wins when people make mistakes via poor judgment. So meanwhile, lets enjoy the great racing that Outdoor MX provides us with, and chalk this one up as just another dumb “goof up” for the mx history books. Cheers, Chronic MX.

Is that a dandelion? Did you step on that? I think that is a dandlelion? I’m gonna have to call the DNR! OMG Get real, SO WHAT. To many people in this country trying to act importaint, just to flex their muscles. He shined a lazer light on a guy, before the race, not on an airplane. Ryan went on to win the race, must have realy effected him…

You’re a moron. A laser can ruin your retina. If you graduated from middle school you may have known this. It’s actually a pretty serious this. And it did affect poto.

ryan won the overall, but he did not win the first moto, which is when he supposedly was shined by the laser. he had a much better start the 2nd moto compared to the first, so i’m sure it had some effect. and by not going 1-1 on the day, it cost him 3 points to dungy. I’m not saying rv would have won the first moto if the laser event never happened, im just saying he had a better start in the 2nd moto when he was laser free. i’ve never had a laser pointer shined in my eyes seconds before the starting gate drops, but i’m sure it is a SLIGHT distraction lol.

I agree Ralph and Mitch!! Alessis just cant get over the fact that once ryan got off 80cc mini bikes and started beating them every race and became A real champion it just rips them apart knowing they are not even on the same planet when it comes to comparing there skills!! They have always tried cheating the system and pulling acts like this weekend to get an upper edge up on villo but we all know that he doesn’t even think about those clowns when he lines up to race. They are not pro and never have been!!

I have personally met the Alessi’s and there father, they are the worst people you could ever have representing a team. Horrible people on that end. SmartTop should be smart and back off there sponsorship, this could probably happen if this is taken any further. Pointing a laser in a riders eye is one of the worst things you could do…. Fine, Fire, and Sponsors need to put there money somewhere else…. Bye Bye Alessi. Oh and there is a reason why Jeff Alessi doesnt ride in the US anymore….

Say what you want about the Alessi’s good or bad Mike & Tony would never have anything to do with this laser incident, this would be Jeff’s own stupidity. Jeff does not ride for Motoconcepts or work for them if he was wearing a headset it would only be to relay what he sees on the track back to Tony. So unless there is solid proof that Motoconcepts was involved back off and go after the responsible party Jeff.

I really don`t understand this tactic.. RV2 would still beat Alessi By 30 seconds even if he was blind folded..

Well sad to say allessi is just trying to screw things up like they always have . When are people gunna grow up. Jeff should go ahead n retire …. Mike isnt far behind him. And i believe that jeff would do such a thing. Theyve been that way since they were on little bikes . Never put in enough of theyre own effort to make it worth theyre while . Tony would be better off just focusing on mike n lettn jeff grow up.. Just an opinion…

“….the Alessi’s would never do something like this.” Bullshi*! Some of you will remember Mike’s incident at Glen Helen a while back. Ya, the one where him and Tedesco came together in a corner and rather then get his own bike going Mike Alessi ran to Ivan’s bike and stood on top of it and tried to hit the kill switch. I’ve seen a lot in my days but never have I witnessed such a blatant act of unsportsmanship than that. It’s apparent that this is a family quality which my guess comes from Tony’s unwillingness to lose. It’s appalling that they still get sponsors and I personally refuse to purchase anything from a vendor who sponsors that putrid example of an mx family. The Alessi’s represent everything we mx’ers strive to disprove in the general publics eyes. I understand it has not been proven that this “laser gate” even took place, but experience and common sense says its a family culture and they are just born to be cheats, liars, and flat out weak in the soul. Colorful or not families like this will ruin our beloved sport. I hope for everyone’s sake this family learns to act with integrity.

It is official that Tony is banned from AMA events for the rest of the season and Jeff is not allowed to hold an AMA license indefinitely. Mike is hit with $15,000 in fines. Poor sportsmanship on them all, especially the way they handle themselves during confrontation. I actually smiled when I read the news – they deserve it. Karma sucks.

Jeff took out Josh Grant in supercross a while back – look up the video. The whole family are scumbags and I would not support ANY company sponsoring them. It will be interesting to see if Mike shows up to the next race – how embarrassing!

It’s about time that the officials start doing their job ! Glad to see Mr. Coombs deal with the situation at hand. If the allegations can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt then both Tony and Jeff should be banned from AMA sanctioned events for life. The sponsor should be put on probation. These guys put their lives on the line every time the gate drops. Any intentional distraction becomes potentially life threatening. AMA should have slapped down Barcia and Stewart for the over aggressive block pass stuff as well. I applaud Ryan V for his composure! Given his history with the Alessi family I am sure he wanted to open up a can of whoop ass on Jeff.

Wait for the whole story before you judge. Mike Alessi had NOTHING to do with this ! Mike Genova (Team Owner) hasn’t had an opportunity to speak for his team and much is to be decided before this is final !
