Single Best Tip For All Motocross Riders: Get Good Health Insurance Contact Ridersurance

The single best tip for all motocross enthusiasts is to get good health insurance before you ride. That tip seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? Yet for some reason less than half of all dirt bike riders have the required health insurance coverage necessary to protect them in the case of an inevitable crash injury. Most dirt bikers make several incorrect assumptions. Either they assume they won’t ever get injured, so they state they don’t need it…or they believe good health insurance will be too expensive for their budget. Others incorrectly assume they won’t qualify. Even worse, many riders smart enough to have health insurance coverage are completely unaware that “exemptions” exist in their policy, stating that if their injury is sustained while racing, they are not covered.

Brandon Parrish, a talented motocross racer, and a multi national superbike champion, is an expert when it comes to securing good health insurance for action sports athletes. After winning an astounding 12 national titles before the age of 30, by winning superbike events such as Pirelli’s Diablo Cup or from dominating WERA’s 600cc ‘superstock’ class, Brandon ventured into the health insurance business. He became an expert by working as an independent contractor for AFLAC, and became familiar with all the big insurance carrier’s policies. Ironically, AFLAC was his title sponsor in 2006. “Racers used to come up and ask me all about health insurance when they saw that AFLAC was my title sponsor” said Brandon. Eventually, he realized an obvious niche existed for helping motorcycle riders and racers get the best health insurance coverage at the lowest price. He started Ridersurance, his own health insurance brokerage business specific to the action sports market. Ridersurance.com has since helped tons of motocross riders focus on enjoying riding or reaching podiums, instead of worrying about the financial risks of a bad injury.

Understanding health insurance is more complicated than one would think. Many carriers have all sorts of exclusions buried way deep in the policy literature…such as exclusions for coverage if the injury occurred during an organized event or a sanctioned race. Many professionals who think they are ‘covered’ while racing, are actually not. Take for example the tragic death of extreme athlete Sarah Burke earlier this year. Brandon explained that the freestyle skier was apparently not covered by her own individual health insurance policy, even though she was sponsored by Monster Energy. Many pro athletes are not paid via W2′s and therefore cannot get the same benefits from their title sponsors as employees do. So like most riders, they get an individual health insurance policy, unaware that exemptions even exist. “Ridersurance has created an awesome new program called the Athlete Protection Program“,  Brandon told Chronic MX. “The program is dedicated to offer health insurance to riders and racers by health insurance companies that do not have hidden exclusions. We do all the research in finding the best policy, at the best price, with full coverage. Anyone can call us and we will help them find the right health insurance coverage for them. We will also help with a specific set a questions designed to find out if their current policy is a good one.” Another great reason to use Brandon’s service is that his prices are no more expensive than if someone was to go directly to the specific provider he finds. Prices are exactly the same as going direct because of regulatory laws that prevent any ‘mark ups’. All a rider needs to do is to pick a deductible that fits into his budget. The price of a policy differs depending on the deductible chosen, the age group of the individual, their state of residence, whether it is a group (family) or individual policy, and a few other simple basic categories. There is no physical test required and the health insurance policy is guaranteed renewable… the only way to be canceled is by non payment.

“It blows my mind how many riders out there are not covered”, said Brandon. Chronic MX agrees with the mind boggling statistics proving this lack of coverage. We see riders spend hundreds of dollars each month on aftermarket parts…yet these same riders claim they cannot afford a basic monthly health insurance payment? Ironically, many of these riders have to exit the sport entirely, not due to an actual physical injury sustained in a crash…but because of the financial burden that the injury in that crash caused. This dilemma could have been easily avoided by simply having a good health insurance policy in place. At Chronic MX, our motto is “Motocross For Life“. We love to ride, we love to race, and we love everything about the sport of motocross. We are committed to doing anything that guarantees we can ride for life! The largest group of racers that do not have coverage, are those ranging from age 19 to 30. Chronic MX highly recommends you get coverage.
