Villopoto and Dungey have epic battle in Moto 1 of 2011 Steel City Outdoor Motocross

The tight points battle between the top outdoor MX title hopefuls, Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey, intensified as the season headed into round 11, in Steel City, Pennsylvania this labor day weekend. With Chad Reed now out of the picture for the overall, it’s basically down to ‘Dungey vs. Villopoto’ for the 2011 AMA Outdoor Motocross championship title. The two riders are neck and neck, hanging it out for every single point as Villopoto maintains a small lead. Moto 1 of Steel City reflected this tight chase by producing one of the year’s greatest motos … the kind of race that keeps you standing on your seat and cheering. Check out this video clip above of Villopoto’s last lap pass to take the Moto 1 win. Ryan Dungey led all the way until the very end, but it wasnt enough. As Villopoto and Dungey neared the checkered flag, a few lapped riders (Les Smith and Michael Byrne) dotted the final turn. Villopoto took full advantage of them, and with raw corner speed, made an incredible outside pass in the last turn for victory! Villopoto went on for the overall with a dominating win in Moto 2. These end of the season point battles are just one more reason why I love this amazing sport. To be able to spectate legends riding with such unbelievable speed, desire and talent is always an awesome sight. Next weekend  the series heads to Pala Raceway for the final round (round 12) of the Outdoor motocross series. Dungey still has a shot at stealing the overall championship from Villopoto, so be ready for more action like today! Cheers, Rocket 88
